Corey Dixon speaks out about Lead Pipe Issue In Elgin, IL

Corey Dixon speaks out about Lead Pipe Issue In Elgin, IL

Hello, fellow residents of Elgin, IL. I want to address the urgent need for action regarding the lead pipe issue plaguing our community. Outdated lead pipes have led to elevated lead levels in the water of many city residents. The lead pipe crisis is a severe public health concern, and we cannot afford not to act more swiftly.

This issue is one of the reasons why I'm running for re-election to the Elgin City Council.
I have made it my mission to tackle this lead pipe crisis head-on, and my plan involves the creation of a citizen-led oversight committee. This committee would be composed of citizens with water quality, public health, and engineering expertise. They would collaborate with local officials and city staff to help support a comprehensive plan to address the lead pipe issue in Elgin. The committee would provide independent oversight and hold officials accountable for meeting established goals and deadlines.

But we must rely on more than just my plan to address this issue.
We must take action now to ensure our community's water is safe for ourselves and our families. I urge you to go out to vote and make our voices heard. We need to elect leaders who prioritize the health and safety of our community, and I have demonstrated that I am up to the task.

Every vote counts; in this case, every voice can make a difference. We cannot afford to be complacent any longer. The health and well-being of our community are at stake, and we need to act swiftly and decisively.

I look forward to serving you again as a member of City Council with your support in this upcoming election.

Let's ensure our community has clean, safe water for generations!

COREY'S PLAN

The following is the three-step process that Corey Dixon's proposed oversight committee would be responsible for as it relates to overseeing the plan to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water in the City of Elgin:

Monitoring Progress:
The oversight committee would be responsible for tracking the plan's progress to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water in the City of Elgin. The steps include; tracking the number of lead service lines replaced, the replacement cost, and the completion timeline. The committee must also ensure that the City is pursuing additional funds to help expedite the lead pipe removal process.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Plan:
The oversight committee would need to assess the plan's effectiveness in reducing exposure to lead in drinking water and including; evaluating the methods to prevent lead pipe corrosion and determining if the City's Corrosion Control Study (CCS) can be improved. The committee would also need to assess the City's progress toward meeting its goal of replacing all lead service lines within a to be determined timeline.

Communication and Transparency:
The oversight committee would communicate with the community about the plan's progress to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water in the City of Elgin. The program will include informing residents about the risks associated with lead exposure and the steps the City takes to address the issue. The committee would also need to ensure transparency in the decision-making process and provide regular updates on the plan's progress to the community. These actions would help build trust with the community and ensure that residents are informed and engaged in addressing this critical issue.
